How ODO records work

HOW ODO WORKS

ODO keeps the history behind every vehicle record.

ODO keeps the context around each record: how it entered ODO, when it was recorded, what evidence was attached, whether it changed, and which version was preserved in an issued report.

WHY ODO

What ODO adds to a vehicle record

A typical vehicle log keeps the details entered for an event. ODO also keeps its source, timestamps, current evidence state, permanent change status, and issued reports.

01 · CREATE THE RECORD

A record is the event and the context around it.

For a service event, ODO keeps the service details together with how the record arrived, the times around it, its evidence state, and whether it later changed.

The event information describes what the user or workshop submitted: the vehicle, occurrence time, odometer, workshop details, work performed, and any next-service values. ODO then keeps separate signals around that information so a later reader can understand its history.

02 · AUDIT MODE

Audit Mode makes important details part of the record from the start.

For each record type, ODO asks for the information that helps a later reader understand it.

When Audit Mode is on, a service record requires workshop details and evidence. A mileage record requires the occurrence date and time, journey boundaries, purpose, evidence, and chronological mileage. The setting used at creation is saved with that record; changing the setting later affects future records only.

ODO stores the corrected current value and permanently marks the record Edited. It does not keep a value-by-value before-and-after edit history. An active record contributes to report totals. If it is permanently revoked, it remains visible for history but is excluded from applicable totals and calculations.

03 · PROVENANCE

Provenance shows how the record entered ODO and what happened next.

In ODO, provenance is the traceable context of a record: where it came from, when each step happened, what evidence is currently associated with it, and whether it changed. ODO keeps these details separate because each answers a different question.

In this Toyota Vios example, provenance follows the record from its workshop handoff through the time supplied for the service, local submission, server receipt, current evidence, and permanent Edited status.

    The current odometer is 48,234 km. Edited permanently shows that this record changed; ODO does not retain the previous value as an edit ledger.

04 · REPORTS AND VERIFICATION

An issued report preserves the selected record version.

ODO creates a new PDF with its own report ID from the records and evidence selected at issuance.

Later edits do not alter a report that was already issued. If the owner wants those changes reflected, ODO creates a separate PDF with a new report ID. This lets a recipient examine the exact PDF they received instead of a moving version of the underlying records.

    The recipient provides the report ID and original PDF through the verification portal. No ODO account is required.
